Cliffside Inscription of a Poem by Xu Lan

    The inscription was made in 1549 in the Ming Dynasty. It consists of two pieces. The one on the left is 0.8 meters high, 1.97 meters wide, covering an area of 1.6 square meters. Each character is 0.14 meters across. The one on the right is 2.1 meters high, 1.4 meters wide, covering an area of 2.94 square meters. Each character is 0.15 meters across.
    Xu Lan, also known by his literary name Wuweng, a native of Lin’an (present-day Jianshui County, Yunnan Province), was a successive candidate in the imperial examination at the provincial level during the early years of Emperor Jiajing (1522-1567) in the Ming Dynasty. He was the magistrate of Hezhou in 1549.
