Diaoyucheng Fortress

The Diaoyucheng Fortress Ruins are located on Diaoyu Mountain in the north of Hechuan District. It lies at the confluence of the Jialing River, the Qujiang River and the Fujiang River, commanding the three rivers. Since ancient times, it has been a vital hub of Ba and Shu regions and a place that must be fought for militarily. It is a national archaeological site park, a key cultural relics protection unit under national-level, a national-level scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist scenic area. It is also the best-preserved ancient battlefield site in China so far. Diaoyucheng Fortress is a military fortress that created miracles in the history of Chinese and foreign wars and a heroic city that changed the pattern of the Eurasian battlefield.

During the Southern Song Dynasty, the military and civilians of Hezhou relied on the natural barrier of Diaoyucheng Fortress to resist the most powerful Mongolian cavalry in the world at that time for 36 years. Under the meticulous protection of the people living along the three rivers, today's Diaoyucheng Fortress has completely preserved more than 50 remains of the Song Dynasty army, the Mongolian army and cultural elements. At present, the work of applying for World Heritage status for the Diaoyucheng Fortress Ruins and creating a national AAAAA-level tourist scenic area is being promoted simultaneously. Currently, the Diaoyucheng Fortress Ruins have been selected into the "Preparatory List of China's World Cultural Heritage" and the "14th Five-Year" Special Plan for the Protection and Utilization of Major National Heritage Sites. The heritage application project for the ruins has been included in the key cultivation projects for heritage application during the "14th Five-Year" period of the country.
