The Stone Gateway of“Du Diao Zhongyuan”


    The Gateway is about 8 meters white 9 meters high with 3 passage gates supported by 4 columns under 3 roofs, it looks really imposing and magnificent. According to historical records the stone gateway was built in 1618 during the Ming dynasty by people of Hezhou to commemorate the great deeds of the city defenders. The Gateway is made of stone, but it just looks like a wooden structure on the front and back of the getaway there are two inscriptions each with 4 bold, Chinese characters du diao zhong yuan. Each character more than 33 centimeters across.The characters were written by Li Zuozhou.     A famous scholar of Hezhou in the Ming Dynasty, who held important official position in Sandown and Shaanxi provinces . The gateway “Du Diao Zhongyuan”, together with the screen walls in the front and rear of the Huguosi temple, and the paved walkways leading to the main hall from, the front part of the whole block of buildings of the temple.
