On the afternoon of June 28, the expert consultation meeting on the joint application for World Heritage status of the mountain city system in Sichuan and Chongqing during the Song and Yuan Dynasties was successfully held at Huadi Hotel in the district. Jiang Xuesong, deputy secretary of the district Party committee and district mayor, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Xing Jun, member of the Party Committee and deputy director of Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Development Commission (Chongqing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage), and Wang Yi, deputy director of Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and director of Sichuan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Fan Lili, director of the Cultural Relics Protection and Archaeology Department of Chongqing Municipal Culture and Tourism Development Commission (Chongqing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage), presided over the meeting.
It is understood that this conference is hosted by the Chongqing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Bureau, and the Hechuan District Party Committee and District Government. It is undertaken by the Chongqing Association for the Protection of Historic Sites and Monuments, the Hechuan District Culture and Tourism Commission, the Yuzhong District Culture and Tourism Commission, the Hechuan District Diaoyucheng Affairs Center, and the Hechuan District Heritage Application Affairs Center. In accordance with the requirements of the "Notice on Initiating the Update of the 'Preparatory List of China's World Cultural Heritages'," issued by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and taking General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions and directives on world cultural heritage application such as "three advantages" as the fundamental guideline, this conference fully implements the relevant deployment of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government on heritage application work. The purpose is to report the phased achievements of the joint application for world cultural heritage of the Sichuan-Chongqing Yuan and Song mountain city system, listen to expert opinions and suggestions, and study and deploy the key work points for the next stage.
Jiang Xuesong, on behalf of the district Party committee and the district government, extended a warm welcome to all leaders, experts and guests. He also expressed heartfelt thanks to friends from all walks of life who have long cared about and supported the economic and social development of Hechuan District and the joint application for World Heritage status of the Diaoyucheng Fortress Site and the Sichuan-Chongqing Yuan and Song Dynasty mountain city system. As an important node in the formation process of China's multi-ethnic country, the Sichuan-Chongqing Yuan and Song Dynasty mountain city ruins are a great innovation and outstanding example of the ancient oriental military defense system. They witnessed the magnificent history of nomadic civilization and farming civilization starting from collision and conflict and ending in communication and integration in the southwest region in the 13th century and have very important status and value in ancient military history. Many leaders and industry experts gathered in Hechuan to deeply discuss the joint application for World Heritage status of the Sichuan-Chongqing Yuan and Song Dynasty mountain city system, which will surely strongly promote the protection of cultural relics and cultural heritages in Sichuan and Chongqing and promote the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle in the two places with practical actions. I hope everyone can speak freely, express their insights, and actively offer suggestions and provide advice. Hechuan is willing to play a bridging role. Together with neighboring cities, it will seize historical opportunities, highlight cooperation priorities, and innovate cooperation mechanisms to boost strategic cooperation and group development between Sichuan and Chongqing and make positive contributions to the protection, utilization and prosperity of cultural heritages in the two places.
Wang Yi said that doing a good job in the joint application for World Heritage status of the Sichuan-Chongqing Yuan and Song Dynasty mountain city system is glorious in mission, heavy in responsibility and arduous in task. He hopes that Sichuan and Chongqing will strengthen confidence, form a consensus and work together. Taking strengthening exchanges and cooperation and promoting exchanges and mutual learning as an important direction, deeply explore the historical and archaeological value of the Yuan and Song Dynasty mountain cities, tell the story of "war and peace" well, and achieve the goal of the joint application for World Heritage status of the Sichuan-Chongqing Yuan and Song Dynasty mountain city system as soon as possible. At the same time, it is necessary to implement the main responsibilities of local governments, build a professional archaeological team, continuously increase the efforts in protecting, managing, researching, displaying and utilizing the ruins, project and list the tasks of the application for World Heritage status, and promote them by checking the list to continuously improve the level of the application for World Heritage status.
Xing Jun said that promoting the joint application for World Heritage status of the Sichuan-Chongqing Song and Yuan mountain city system is the implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping's "three benefits" regarding the declaration of world cultural heritage and the update work of the "Preliminary List of China's World Cultural Heritage Sites" by the National Cultural Heritage Administration. It is a practical action for cultural heritage protection to help build the Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle and a specific manifestation of the National Cultural Heritage Administration's encouragement of cross-provincial and cross-border joint application for World Heritage projects. In the next step, we must adhere to a problem-oriented approach, absorb expert opinions, improve the working mechanism, deepen the application text, highlight key points, consolidate responsibilities, and carry out operations with a wall chart. We will promote the archaeology of the Sichuan-Chongqing Song and Yuan mountain city sites to be included in major projects of "Archaeology in China" and ensure that the joint application project for the Sichuan-Chongqing Song and Yuan mountain city system is included in the "Preliminary List of China's World Cultural Heritage Sites".
At the meeting, Zheng Wanquan, deputy director of the Institute of Archaeology of the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, introduced the relevant situation of the Sichuan Song and Yuan mountain city sites. The joint application for World Heritage inscription text team of the Sichuan-Chongqing Song and Yuan mountain city system made a report. Experts and scholars from the China Architecture Design & Research Group, the China Academy of Cultural Heritage, Peking University, Fudan University and others focused on issues such as the name of the application for World Heritage inscription, the definition of time and space scope, and the authenticity and integrity of heritage elements. They shared their unique insights and discussed the path and direction of the joint application for World Heritage inscription of the Sichuan-Chongqing Song and Yuan mountain city system.
Yuan Xiaoqin, deputy district chief, and Li Chen, deputy county chief of Zhongxian County, as well as relevant leaders from the Chongqing Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Chongqing heritage sites, Chongqing Association for the Protection of Historic Sites and Monuments, Sichuan heritage sites, the District Culture and Tourism Commission, the District Diaoyucheng Affairs Center, and the District Application for World Heritage Affairs Center attended the meeting.
