Sun Qiao, a great master of Ci Fu (a literary form), looked around in all directions on Longduo Mountain.

Sun Qiao,a great master of Ci Fu,Looked Around in All Directions on Longduo Mountain
If you drive northwest from the urban area of Hechuan for about an hour,a mountain with undulating peaks and looking like a coiled dragon will come into view.It is named Longduo Mountain. As a"fairy mountain"integrating Buddhism and Taoism, this mountain enjoys a high reputation in the Bashu region and there is a local custom of"visiting Longduo Mountain on the third day of the third lunar month".
Once upon a time,Longduo Mountain was the boundary mountain between Ba Prefecture and Shu Prefecture in the Han Dynasty. There is a huge stone with a crack in the middle on the mountain. It is said that it was the boundary between Ba Prefecture and Shu Prefecture at that time. Now,Longduo Mountain is the boundary mountain between Hechuan and Tongnan.
In ancient times when transportation was backward and information was blocked,Longduo Mountain naturally didn't have a very big reputation. However, during the reign of Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty,Huang Chao raised an army and there was war in Chang'an.Emperor Xizong took refuge in Sichuan and stayed there for four full years. There was a rumor that he had visited Longduo Mountain, but it couldn't be confirmed.Nevertheless,Sun Qiao, who was the director of the Military Affairs Department in the court of Emperor Xizong and a great master of Ci Fu,was ordered by Emperor Xizong to go to the Jiufeng Chan Temple in Laitan,Hezhou(which is today's Erfo Temple in Laitan,Hechuan)to hold a sacrificial ceremony and offer prayers. Thanks to this,Sun Qiao was able to take the opportunity to visit Longduo Mountain on his way.
Sun Qiao"stayed on the mountain for two nights and three days",fully enjoying the scenery of Longduo Mountain during that time, and wrote a widely acclaimed travelogue titled"Records of Longduo Mountain".Since then,Longduo Mountain has gained great fame.At the beginning of the article, the geographical location of Longduo Mountain was described:"Five hundred li to the south of Zitong, there is a mountain rising up in the middle of the sky."This travelogue mainly described the perilous, unique scenery and legends of Longduo Mountain. The description of the craggy rocks in it was particularly vivid:"The craggy rocks stand tall, forming the East Rock. They are jagged and overlapping, vying with each other as if in a race. Some seem to be broken, some seem to have cracks, some seem to be missing parts, and some seem to have holes. The protruding ones look like angry tigers, the ones standing on tiptoe look like monkeys squatting. The horizontal ones look like fallen trees, and the straight ones look like erected steles. There are also some that seem to be connected eaves and corridors, with brackets intertwined, slanting columns propping up,and the beams and foundations hanging precariously. They are of strange shapes and so astonishing that one can hardly bear to look at them."Standing on the top of the mountain,Sun Qiao looked around in all directions.Clear springs, deep valleys, beautiful trees, and fine bamboos,as well as wild animals in the mountains and birds in the woods...all came into his view."Looking down in a circle, all kinds of things were in sight. The mountains were connected with the rivers, with green and blue colors intertwined. The vastness reached the clouds,so hazy that it was hard to distinguish clearly."There was really a sense of the vastness of the world and the feeling that all other mountains seemed small when looking down from a height.
Reading such an article makes people's imagination run wild,as if thousands of valleys were in front of their eyes. One can't wait to drive to Longduo Mountain immediately and have a pleasant tour.
Sun Qiao claimed to be the"fourth-generation disciple"of Han Yu,a great prose writer, and was quite conceited about his own writings. His"Records of Longduo Mountain"was also included in"Records of Famous Scenic Spots in Shu"by Cao Xuequan in the Ming Dynasty as a model of travelogues through the ages. The article became wonderful because of the mountain, and the name of the mountain spread because of the article. It can be said that they complemented each other perfectly.
